Company Makes Donation to Food Drive
Simplot has donated 300 pounds of food as part of the relief effort to help disaster victims in the Pacific Northwest.
The 20 cases of RoastWorks products will be used to feed people displaced by flooding and a tornado.
“This is a very worthy cause and we’re glad to be able to help,” said Jim Hoyt, Simplot Food Group zone sales manager.
The food donated by Simplot is being distributed by the West Linn, Ore., chamber of commerce, Lions Club, and city officials. The “West Linn Feeds the Hungry” project is the first citywide food drive in Oregon’s history, and is part of a larger effort by the Oregon Food Bank and many other organizations and individuals to assist thousands of flood victims in Oregon and Washington.
The Simplot donation was made after Food Group headquarters employee Meghan Watters heard about the food drive from her father, Mike, a member of the West Linn Lions Club.
“I called Jim Hoyt to ask if Simplot would be interested in a donation, and Jim ran with it,” said Meghan.
According to Mike Watters, the Simplot donation represents a meaningful addition to flood relief efforts.
“I’m certainly thankful for Simplot stepping forward and helping when it was needed,” he said. “The cooperation from people in your company was wonderful.”
