TITRATIONS SCIENCE MODULE
PURPOSE
To demonstrate acid/base neutralization.
MATERIALS
• Vinegar
• Baking soda solution (in box)
• Indicator
METHOD
Basic analytical technique:
- Load vinegar in a burette.
- Load baking soda solution in other burette, label.
- Put a couple of drops of indicator in a small beaker with some deionized water.
- If blue, add a couple of drops of vinegar until it turns red.
- If red, add a couple of drops until it turns blue.
- Mix is now neutral (kind of).
- Add 10 drops of vinegar.
DISCUSSION
How many drops of baking soda will it take to neutralize? Which is stronger?
Repeat a couple of times.
