TITRATIONS SCIENCE MODULE


PURPOSE
To demonstrate acid/base neutralization.

MATERIALS
• Vinegar
• Baking soda solution (in box)
• Indicator

METHOD
Basic analytical technique:

  1. Load vinegar in a burette.
  2. Load baking soda solution in other burette, label.
  3. Put a couple of drops of indicator in a small beaker with some deionized water.
  4. If blue, add a couple of drops of vinegar until it turns red. 
  5. If red, add a couple of drops until it turns blue. 
  6. Mix is now neutral (kind of). 
  7. Add 10 drops of vinegar. 

DISCUSSION
How many drops of baking soda will it take to neutralize?  Which is stronger? 

Repeat a couple of times.
