The Don Plant in Pocatello, Idaho personifies Simplot’s efforts to constantly improve existing processes in a way that not only benefits the business but also the environment. For example, phosphate-rich ore extracted from the Smoky Canyon Mine arrives at the Don Plant through an 87-mile pipeline. The ore is crushed, mixed with enough liquid to make slurry, and then piped directly to the plant. The change in ore delivery enabled the Don Plant to shut down equipment that had represented a source of air emissions. This was one of several significant process changes at the facility which have resulted in less air emissions to the atmosphere.
