Recently, six Idaho FFA Association state officers embarked on a journey through southern Idaho, gaining hands-on experience across Simplot’s operations.
The week-long tour, held July 28–31, offered a firsthand look at Simplot’s “Mine to Plate” story. The experience was designed to deepen the attendees’ understanding of agriculture, innovation, and leadership.
Day 1: Digging into the Roots
The tour kicked off with a visit to Smoky Canyon Mine in Afton, Wyoming. Led by Simplot Public Affairs Manager Andrea Gumm, the FFA officers explored Simplot’s mining operations that provide essential nutrients for agricultural production.
Day 2: Innovation in Action
Tuesday began with a tour of the Don Plant in Pocatello, again guided by Gumm. Our guests witnessed how mined materials are transformed into fertilizers that support global food production.”
In the afternoon, Mountain West Regional Operations Manager Jordan Hart welcomed the group to the Simplot Grower Solutions facility in Rupert, Idaho. This brand-new site showcased the future of agricultural retail and technology, highlighting Simplot’s commitment to supporting growers with cutting-edge solutions.
Day 3: Science Meets Leadership
Wednesday’s agenda brought the officers to Simplot Plant Sciences in Boise, where they explored the world of biotechnology and its role in shaping modern agriculture.
The group then toured the Simplot Global Headquarters, where they learned about the Company’s history—including the story of Molly the Mule—and participated in a sensory testing experience led by Simplot Sensory Technician Lou Silva. Lunch was hosted by James Alderman, Simplot’s General Counsel and an FFA alumnus, who shared his career journey and insights on the future of agriculture.
Later that day, the officers traveled to Caldwell for a visit to the Idaho Plant and tour of the campus. From field to fry, they saw the full lifecycle of Simplot’s iconic potato products—and sampled plenty along the way.
The day concluded with a stop at Simplot Western Stockmen’s (SWS), where the group toured the store and mill and learned about feed products.
Day 4: From Pasture to Lab
On Thursday guests visited CS Beef Packers and Simplot Animal Sciences in Kuna, Idaho. Animal Sciences Senior Sales Marketing Manager Jeremy Howard and his team guided them through the beef processing steps and into the labs, where they learned about Simplot’s animal science innovations.
